Why study the Bible for yourself?

1. It is God’s Word.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 — For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.(NKJV)
2 Timothy 3:16–17 — All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.(NKJV)
John 17:17 — Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.(NKJV)
2. It tells us how to please God.
Matthew 7:21–23 — “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’(NKJV)
Luke 6:46 — “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?(NKJV)
3. It warns us of the consequences of rejecting God’s word
John 12:48 — He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.(NKJV)
2 Thessalonians 1:6–9 — since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,(NKJV)
4. Reveals the way to receive the abundant life.
John 10:10 — The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.(NKJV)
Romans 1:16–17 — For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”(NKJV)
John 20:30–31 — 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.(NKJV)
5. We will be judged by it.
Revelation 20:12 — And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.(NKJV)
2 Corinthians 5:10 — For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.(NKJV)
